Law Clerk Criminal Defense Family Law Civil Litigation Federal Court Bar Exam Passed

Erica Mandi serves as a Law Clerk with Spurrell, Studer & Matney Law Group, PLLC, where she works alongside the firm’s attorneys on criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation matters in both state and federal courts. Having successfully passed the Tennessee Bar Examination, Erica is currently awaiting admission to practice and her formal swearing-in. In the meantime, she assists with legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, case preparation, and client support.

Erica brings to the firm a depth of real-world legal experience that began long before law school, along with a firsthand understanding of what it means to navigate the legal system from the inside.

Before pursuing her law degree, Erica spent years working across multiple facets of the justice system. She began in correctional services, managing inmate trust accounts and later carrying a caseload as a correctional counselor. She then spent five years in child support enforcement before transitioning to nearly three years as a victim/witness coordinator, working directly with individuals facing some of the most difficult circumstances a person can encounter. Those experiences shaped both her legal instincts and her commitment to treating every client with honesty, compassion, and genuine attention.

Erica earned her J.D. from Appalachian School of Law, graduating cum laude in December 2025. After successfully passing the Tennessee Bar Examination in 2026, she is currently completing the admission process and is also preparing to sit for the Virginia Bar Examination. She came to the legal profession with a clear purpose: having spent years as support staff within the justice system, she wanted a stronger voice and a greater ability to create meaningful change for the people and communities she served.

Outside the office, Erica enjoys live music, embroidery, and cooking, and is slowly reclaiming her love of reading after law school did its best to ruin it. A transplant who arrived in Northeast Tennessee in 2011 and never left, she considers the region home in every sense of the word.
